Something else that some of us enjoy in books - and movies either can't, or won't depict: open ended topics, unanswered questions.
We all have a measure of OCD - that itch that makes vampires drop their victims to tie shoelaces or count little balls, or what makes us fill in zone 1 and 2 explore bars in DL. It also makes us want to tie loose ends, and find answers to mysteries.

Well written books have a limited number of loose ends - just enough to push our imagination.
Most well-made movies can't afford to leave such loose ends, for fear that people won't understand. And yet...
Most movies with some open ended questions are the movies we still talk about.

And that makes me draw the conclusion, supported by the "worst book to movie" examples - a movie from a book is likely bad when it either ties any loose ends from the book, filling in with the director's imagination, or simply removes the questions altogether.
It's not a bug, it's a feature ! ;)
